Clogged Dryer Vent Causes Duluth Apartment Fire
Fire Displaces 2 at Duluth Apartment Building
At 0721 on Wednesday April 15th, 2015, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a clothing dryer fire.
Number 8 Quint arrived on scene first and reported that the fire was a structure fire and it had extended beyond the room of origin.
The fire was quickly knocked down but DFD crews worked for nearly 2 hours doing salvage and overhaul while checking for extension.
The fire displaced two residents from two of the four apartments.
Assistance is being provided by the Red Cross.
Initial damage estimates are $40,000 to the building and $50,000 to the contents.
The Duluth Deputy Fire Marshal investigated the fire and has determined the cause was accidental and started because of a clogged dryer vent within a wall.
