Duluth Mayor Don Ness and the city got together to recognize people who volunteer in the community.

They honored the contributions of our national service members as part of National Volunteer Week.

Arrowhead RSVP is a non profit organization that takes care of the elderly in nursing homes and hospitals.

This week, they are especially encouraging everyone to volunteer.

“Everyone should get out there and volunteer.  Even it it’s a half hour during the week, give the time you can to make your community healthier, safer and better,” said Arrowhead’s Manager, Bonnie Ebnet.

Ebnet volunteers when she is not at work and say’s it is a very rewarding job.

“You know that you spent your time doing something worthwhile and something that you know is making a difference in the lives of other people in your community or making your community better,” Ebnet expressed.

Duluth is one of more than 1,500 cities honoring service members.
