A benefit was held at Strikers Bar in Superior to help raise money for the nearly 50 people left without a place to call home after a fire spread throughout Applewood Knoll Apartments.

All proceeds from the silent auction, raffle and door prizes along with food sales will be divvied out evenly to the victims.

“Thank you to anybody and everybody whose come, whose donated, whose helped out,” Applewood Knoll Apartments resident Justice Niemi said. “None of this would be possible without people’s like good hearts being the way they are.”

Event organizers tell FOX 21 monetary donations and other types of gifts have been pouring in all week.

During this benefit they hope to get more than just donations.

Meeting with victims, receiving love from the community and sharing memories is also the goal.

“It’s going good, it’s a happy day,” event organizer Amanda Zomerfelt said. “I mean I feel like it’s going to be good for a lot of people. We are just going to enjoy our time and eat some food.”

Another benefit will kick off this Sunday at the Red Herring Lounge in Superior.
