The water levels on Lake Superior are close to the long term average.

In the past, levels have been extremely low and increased during the summer months.

Experts say the reason for such a quick increase is because of the cool conditions, additional rainfall and thick ice.

In addition, the amount of evaporation is determined by the ice conditions.

“The difference between no ice and high evaporation to lots of ice and zero evaporation is a big difference to the lake’s water budget,” said the Director of Large Lakes Observatory, Robert Sterner.

The levels are expected to raise more mid summer.
