In this week’s edition of Hanger Hits the Road, FOX 21’s Dan Hanger takes you to Barnum, Minn., where Uncle Louie is the talk of the town.
“It’s a nice quiet town. Everyone takes pride working here, living here,” explained Kris Asperheim, the deputy clerk for the city of Barnum.
Barnum has a population around 600, which is just a blip inside Amsoil Arena, which hold 6,600.
But as the saying goes, big isn’t always better — unless you meet Uncle Louie who is 25 feet tall, 2,300 pounds and made out of fiber glass.
Sam Burbie, a waiter at Lazy Bear Grill where Uncle Louie is proudly mounted, says the big beast is a popular tourist attraction that helps the grill with business.
But there’s more to Barnum, like a successful elementary school and high school.
And then there’s the big four days of money making good times at the Carlton County Fair, which brings in thousands of people from all over the Northland.
