The Duluth Library Foundation hosted a celebration in honor of the Library’s 125th Birthday Wednesday afternoon.
Several community members gathered to honor over a century of service.
City Council President Emily Larson has the library to thank for teaching her kids literacy and life long learning skills.
“It makes a substantial difference in the lives of families at at time when we could not afford to be rotating books, toys and access to materials,” Larson expressed.
To recognize its milestone, the Foundation launched a campaign for 2015.
Their goal is to raise $100,000 in donations that will go toward programming and materials.
Larson says that living in a supportive city is great in making such aggressive goals.
“It’s really the gift that keeps on giving. As a parent and city councilor, I thank everyone for their investment in the library through the foundation and the impact you all have on the community is really substantial,” Larson expressed.
Over the last 25 years, more than $280,000 has been brought in through the foundation.
