Silver Bay Veterans Home Receives Sweet Surprise
SILVER BAY, Minn. — The Silver Bay Veterans Home is celebrating with something sweet after being surprised with a donation on Memorial Day.
Two kids in the community raised money by putting up on a lemonade stand and ended up donating the money to the veterans home.
To celebrate the donation, the home had an ice cream social where the kids showed up to get to know them. The PR Coordinator says this is the first time in a long time that they’ve been able to have a get-together like this.
“After 3 years of COVID, we haven’t had a lot of opportunities to be out in the community or invite the community in. So, to have them do that and then be able to join us today is something special and wonderful. Something we haven’t been able to do for a long time,” said Randall Walz, Public Relations Coordinator.
The kids wanted to raise money for the veterans home as they both have relatives who have served in the military.
“It makes me feel good that we got to help them out,” said Maddie Vanhouse, 10-year-old Silver Bay resident. “Being cooped up in the thing all those 3 years during COVID and finally get outside and have ice cream,” said Jordan Klemmer, 11-year-old Silver Bay resident.
