Using Lemonade Stand Profits to Help Others

Superior, Wisc. — Two young girls from Superior had a lemonade stand on Tower Avenue this summer.  The girl’s goal was to use the money they made to help others.

On Wednesday the girls were at St. Luke’s Foundation to donate and display what the fruits of their labor had accomplished.

The bags and boxes of goods coming out of the vehicle were quite impressive. They just kept coming and coming.

The items that the soon-to-be sixth graders, Chloe Kramp and Kim Philaja, bought with the money they had earned at the Lemonade stand were for babies and toddlers.

Chloe Kramp talked about their goal for the lemonade stand, ” We thought maybe we could try to match last year, and we went over that a lot.”

“Last year we made around $930 dollars,” said Kim Philaja. “This year we like times that by five times and made over $5,000 dollars.”

The girls decided to donate the money they made in honor of the daughter of Superior Police Officer Nicholas Eastman. His 19-year-old daughter, Hailey passed away unexpectedly early last year.

When the girls completed their lemonade sale for the year, they realized something unexpected had taken place.

” Well, for the most part, people just donated. Last year people, we went through more lemonade than this year. We had more donations than people who bought lemonade,” said Kim Philaja.

However the money came in, the girls loved shopping for baby and toddler goods.

“I think shopping was really fun too,” said Chloe Kramp “I  think about how much they will love these clothes and seeing them wear them, not seeing, it but thinking about it”

The two said they plan on continuing their lemonade stand next summer and donating the profits next year and beyond.
