Duluth Lions Club Celebrates 75 Years of Service

DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Lions Club is celebrating their 75th anniversary with a day of service.

The non-profit organization supports sight and hearing-impaired programs, diabetes awareness, and youth projects.

And Tuesday groups of Lions were helping with different projects they have around the community. That included collecting used eyeglasses to recycle them for those who do not have access to proper eyecare, gathering soft plastic that will eventually get made into benches and serving meals at the Union Gospel Mission.

“We like to be involved because we like to serve and so, we come in here and we help out in the kitchen, preparing the meals and serving them. But also sitting down with the folks that come in here and receive meals. You know it’s a relationship and so, to connect with them at a level as their having a meal I think is pretty special,” said Jim Denney, member of the Duluth Lions Club.

The Duluth Lions Club was chartered with Lions International 78 years ago, but because of COVID the original celebration was delayed to Tuesday. Tuesday night Enger Tower will be lit purple and gold to recognize the group.
