#11 UMD Men’s Hockey Takes Unbeaten Record On the Road to #12 Cornell
Both games on Friday and Saturday are set for 6 PM.
DULUTH, Minn.- Another weekend, and another weekend of UMD men’s hockey without a loss as the Bulldogs swept Bemidji State in a home and home series.
Now, they hop on a plane to face a team similar in the polls.
Both UMD and Cornell were either ranked 11th or 12th in multiple polls.
It’s the 2nd consecutive season the Bulldogs and Big Red have met on the ice.
Just last year, UMD swept Cornell on their home ice last October.
Head Coach Scott Sandelin says Cornell’s playing style is similar to some of their conference opponents.
“It’ll be a great test because we’re going to see a different style but a style we’re going to see in our league too. Teams that can play fast. Teams that can play hard. Teams that are heavier and they’re a big team. So we’ll see how we handle it,” said Sandelin.
Over the weekend, UMD goalie Zach Stejskal had his first career shutout.
Even with his teammates putting up big points on the offense, he says that never changes his mindset.
“I try to not look at the scoreboard at all during a game. Just because you kind of psyche yourself out. Like oh we’re up three. I heard on a Tik Tok, it’s like if you ask a pilot not to hit an obstacle. He’s going to hit that obstacle every single time. Same kind of thing with a goalie. If you think I’m not going to let up three goals, chances are in the back of your mind you’re going to let up three goals,” added Stejskal.
