Mountain Iron-Buhl’s State Title Defense Ends in Loss to Nevis

Rangers' lowest-scoring game since 2018

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn.- The Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers won’t be repeating as 9-player football state champions this year as they fell to Nevis 12-8 in Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup.

The Rangers went scoreless in the first half, despite reaching the red zone twice. They also recovered a fumble on defense that led to a 94-yard return by Evan Anderson, but the would-be touchdown was called back due to an illegal block in the back penalty.

MIB’s ensuing drive ended in a punt before Nevis scored a touchdown with 35 seconds to go in the 2nd quarter. Mountain Iron Buhl would score a touchdown with a two-point conversion in the third quarter, but it wouldn’t be enough to overtake the Tigers.
