Coming Off Bye Week, #7 UMD Women’s Hockey Set to Host #4 Minnesota
In recent years, Minnesota has had a hold off the all-time series, winning seven of the last 10 matchups.
DULUTH, Minn.- Fresh off their bye week, the 7th ranked UMD women’s hockey team returns to the ice this weekend.
And it’s a big one as the Bulldogs welcome in the 4th ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers into Amsoil Arena.
Both teams come into the matchup with similar seasons so far.
Each squad has two losses, which have come from Ohio State.
In recent years, Minnesota has had a hold off the all-time series, winning seven of the last 10 matchups.
Head Coach Maura Crowell says anytime they face Minnesota, her team is always electrified.
“Yeah, it’s always exciting. Bulldogs/Gophers matchup. We get to host in Duluth. These are huge games for us. We love playing on home ice and we want to make it as uncomfortable for them as possible. I don’t think they like their last game here in this building and we want to keep that trend going,” said Crowell.
“I always think it’s great competition. We have a lot of girls on the two teams that played against each other growing up. So I think that creates a lot of animosity and builds a good tension in the arena so I like being a part of that,” added senior defender Nina Jobst-Smith.
Puck drop for game one is set for Friday at 6:01 pm.
