#9 UMD Women’s Hockey Welcomes in #2 Colgate for Final Home Series of 2023
Colgate and UMD have only faced each other three times and all three matchups have gone UMD's way.
DULUTH, Minn.- Hard to believe but the 9th ranked UMD women’s hockey team will have their final home series of 2023 this weekend when they host 2nd ranked Colgate.
It’s a rarity when the Bulldogs and Raiders meet on the ice. They’ve only faced each other three times and all three matchups have gone UMD’s way.
This year, the team’s do share one common opponent and that is Ohio State. The Raiders split with the Buckeyes while the Bulldogs were swept by OSU.
Head Coach Maura Crowell says their tough conference matchup will help when game planning for Colgate.
“Good team, I think they’ve won ten in a row. But they do play in a different league than we play so I think we can do a good job against them. I think it’s going to be a lot like it was last weekend. Just playing WCHA hockey gives us an advantage. They’re flying in, they have a long trip. They gotta play our style of hockey so we’re excited to play,” said Crowell.
Senior forward Clara Van Wieren can attest to that. She says a matchup like this weekend every single stretch counts.
“Just focusing on implenting what the coaches give us. Every single shift, I think is going to be huge. Then also just coming out of the gates and playing Bulldog hockey,” added Van Wieren.
Puck drop for game one is set for Friday at 6 PM.
