‘Steam-Powered Christmas Tree Train’ Chugs Through Duluth
DULUTH, Minn. — An old-fashioned, steam-powered Christmas Tree Train departed the Duluth Depot for Knife River over the weekend.
When the locomotive arrived to its destination at the train station in Knife River, riders could pick out a tree, wreaths and garland, which was hauled back to the Depot by train car.
The unique ride is made possible because the Steam Team at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. They worked on the engine for two years to meet new federal safety standards.
The steam engine is one of only 181 working steam locomotives in the United States.
Coming up next weekend (Dec. 2, 3), the Julebyen Express Train will launch to Knife River.
The North Shore Scenic Railroad also operates the Bentleyville Shuttle Train and the Christmas City Express.
