#6 UMD Women’s Hockey to Head to Madison to Take on Defending National Champions Wisconsin
UMD would get the best of the champs last season, winning three of the four contests.
DULUTH, Minn.- After facing then ranked #2 Colgate last week, the Bulldogs hit the road this weekend to face the defending national champions and now 2nd ranked Wisconsin.
UMD would get the best of the champs last season, winning three of the four contests.
Head Coach Maura Crowell admitted it was hard to remember those games from a year ago.
But, she did say when facing a team like Wisconsin, her team needs to do this in order to win.
“I think that’s always important in the WCHA or when you’re playing top teams. Commiting to good defensive hockey, staying structured, making it incredibly frustrating and when you get your chances, making it count. We have to find the back of the net when we get the opportunities. And I think we’re doing a much better job of that. So, it’s encouraging,” said Crowell.
The bout against Wisconsin is the 3rd out of fourth matchup on a tough gauntlet schedule for UMD.
Graduate forward Reece Hunt says the team is hoping to keep the momentum rolling this weekend.
“I think we’re feeling great as a group. Obviously, a little dissapointing on Saturday. But I think we just kind of made a statement. That’s what we’ve wanted to do all year so just hopefully carrying that through to Wisconsin this weekend. But I think we’re definitely on a high but still just putting in the work and hopefully we can do some good over in Wisconsin,” added Hunt.
Game one is set for Saturday at 4 PM.
