Finally: Fall Graduation at Lake Superior College!

Many students with some fall classes remaining didn't have to wait for spring to celebrate.

When it comes to graduation, many of us think of spring and the end of the school year.

But for some college students, it’s the fall when they finally take that last class.

Celebrating that is what brought students and faculty together at Lake Superior College Monday afternoon.

Although there was a spring graduation ceremony, many students still had a class or two to take and were not able to wrap things up until after the summer.

Rather than wait all winter for the next spring ceremony, a couple years ago LSC began recognizing the students who finished in the fall for all their hard work and accomplishments.

“A lot of times the students who are graduating in the fall are not able to participate in the annual commencement celebration in May, so we started doing this event to have a way to say, ‘Congratulations on a job well done!'” said Melissa Leno, Registrar at Lake Superior College. “Many of these individuals are off to employment. Some inside the area, some out. So, this gives us a chance to celebrate with them,” said Leno.

For LSC faculty and staff, it is one of the best days of the year–a chance to see their students complete the journey they began, in many cases, years ago. More than one hundred and fifty students received degrees, diplomas or certificates.

Ryan Estenson said it’s a great feeling having finished his last semester.

“Lake Superior College is super important to me. It’s a smaller college, a smaller community, which I like,” said Estenson. “The professors, the advisors, administration. This right here, the fall graduation, is super important for students that are graduating in the fall,” Estenson said.

Congratulations to Ryan and fellow students who can now relax–and not think about homework over winter break–or maybe ever again!
