UMD Men’s Hockey Travels to Oxford for Final NCHC Conference Series of 2023
Last year, each team had two wins, two losses, and one tie in the five meetings they saw one another.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD men’s hockey team has made their way to Miami of Ohio for one last NCHC series before the new year.
It’s been a even series over the years between the Bulldogs and the Redhawks.
Last year, each team had two wins, two losses, and one tie in the five meetings they saw one another.
Even more of a similarity, the two squads have similar records with each around 4 to 5 wins and each having 8 losses.
Head Coach Scott Sandelin says Miami is a much better team than their record indicates, signaling his team must be on their toes when they hit the ice this evening.
“Again another challenge. They certainly are a much improved team. I know their record doesn’t indicate it. Big heavy team, strong on the walls, get pucks to the net. They’ve always gives us fits. At least we don’t have to see pearson. Very important series before the break,” said Sandelin.
Friday’s matchup will also be the first time some UMD players have played at Oxford. That includes sophomore defenseman and former Hermantown Hawk Joey Pierce.
“It’s a place I haven’t been to personally ever. So I’m excited to go to a new place and play in a new building. Every NCHC team is hard to play against. But I think what we’ve talked about lately is playing our game and not worrying about what the other team has in front of us. Obviously we’re going to look at their systems but we just want to play how we know we can and we know what works. So that’s what our big focus is this week,” added Pierce.
Puck drop is at 6 PM.
