Esko’s Koi Perich Sticking to Original Commitment, Will Play for Gophers Next Fall

Perich is coming off a season in which he totaled 27 touchdowns and helped Esko to a 10-1 overall record.

ESKO, Minn.- After a last second attempt from Ohio State, Esko senior football standout is sticking to his original commitment back in April.

Perich has officially signed with Minnesota according to the team’s Twitter page.

Wednesday morning, Perich officially signed with P.J Fleck and company.

And later that afternoon he had a chance to celebrate with family, friends, and teammates with an official ceremony.

The top player in the state admitted it wasn’t an easy decision since Ohio State made waves within the last week, that included a home visit from Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day.

Finally on Monday, he said he was ready to ROW.

“It was 50/50 either way then I just kept grinding, trying to get a decision and then ultimately it led up to this one on Monday. Yeah I mean the atmosphere is obviously going to be very awesome. Just being able to play in your homestate in front of all your home fans, being a hometown kid it’s going to be very fun,” said Perich.

The excitement was reciprocated by Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck as Perich is the highest ranked player Fleck has brought in in his seven years of guiding the Golden Gophers.

“Obivously it was well documented about his recruiting battle towards the end and I think some things get blown out of proportion at times. Some people they say they have this and they really don’t. This was very real. It came down to the last minute with this young man. He kept hearing the same thing over and over and over. Everytime he got back on the phone it was like what else do you have? Nothing. It’s the exact same thing I told you two years ago. I think the consistency of that rang true. He wants to make a massive impact here in the state of Minnesota,” added Fleck.

Perich is the 84th ranked player in the nation and is the top player in the state of Minnesota.

He is coming off a season in which he totaled 27 touchdowns and helped Esko to a 10-1 overall record.
