UWS Women’s Hoops Ready for UMAC Opponents
Finished third in UMAC in 2022-23
SUPERIOR, Wis.- At 5-6, the UW-Superior women’s basketball team has already experienced both big wins and tough losses 11 games into the season. However, the overall mood of this team hints at greener pastures.
“When things aren’t really going our way or the outcome of the game isn’t how we want, we can lean on each other,” says Katie Dobson, a junior captain with the Yellowjackets. “I’m excited to see where we’re going. I feel like we’re starting to put pieces together and play a complete game and I think once everything starts clicking a little bit more, there will definitely be better outcomes.”
Dobson has started every game has been a consistent contributor for UWS. “I kind of had high expectations for Katie coming in, and I think she knew that as well,” says head coach Emily Carpenter. “She’s definitely has fulfilled that already so I’m excited to continue to see her build off of that.”
Carpenter is in her second season as head coach, but it’s her first year at the helm after having a full offseason in charge. “I got thrown into the job really late so recruiting was really tough, but now having the full summer and winter under my belt has been fun.”
“I like her,” says Dobson in regard to Coach Carpenter. “She brings a lot of energy to the team and finds ways to make us better. There’s always stuff we can work on and she’s good at finding those things and implementing them into practice so that we’re constantly improving.”
Though they’re currently under .500, the Yellowjackets are 2-0 against UMAC opponents, which is a promising start towards their ultimate objective. “A big goal of ours is to win conference this year,” says Dobson. “We know it’s in reach. We had many close games last year that didn’t go our way.”
