Cloquet Police: Super 8 Hotel Employee Among 3 Dead, Including Shooter

10:15 p.m. Update:  The Cloquet Police Department released new information on Monday evening’s active shooter incident.

Around 6:30 p.m., an employee of the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet called 911 to report they’d found another hotel employee who looked like she’d been attacked, according to the news release.

Cloquet police responded to find a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound.  She was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according police.

As officers investigated, they found a 35-year-old male victim shot to death in a car in the hotel parking.

Officer later found a 32-year-old man outside on the hotel property who was dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. “A firearm was located next to him. Officers reviewed surveillance video from the hotel and confirmed that this deceased male was the suspect,” according to the release.

The identities of the victims and the shooter were not released Monday night.

“There is no information yet on a motive for the shootings or if there was any connection between the suspect and either of the victims,” according to the release.

More information is expected to be released Tuesday, as Police Chief Derek Randall will be holding a news conference at 10 a.m.

Assisting the Cloquet Police Department in this case includes: Cloquet Area Fire District, Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Fond Du Lac Police, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Minnesota Homeland Security Emergency Management, and Mayo Ambulance.

9:20 p.m. Update:  Three people are dead, including the suspect, in a shooting at Super 8 in Cloquet, according to Commander Wade Rasch, of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office who is assisting Cloquet police.

CLOQUET, Minn. — Just after 7 p.m., the Cloquet Police Department issued an “active shooter” alert to the public, asking residents to seek shelter until further notice.

Officials say there are “several victims” and the suspect is at large.

The incident happened in the area of Big Lake Road and Hwy 33, which is in the city’s business district.

Initial reports center the incident around the Super 8, according to a law enforcement official.
