Victim Of Duluth Trailhead Vehicle Break-Ins: ‘Enough Is Enough’

DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Police Department responded to six vehicle break-ins between Sunday and Monday.

Duluth police said the incident happened in the Ely’s Peak Superior Hiking Trail parking area off of Becks Road. Authorities said the suspect or suspects broke into vehicles by breaking windows.

Police said “nothing of significant value was taken” as all reporting parties didn’t have anything in plain sight and valuables were locked up.

Marcy Easty, an avid trail user who was one of the victim’s at Ely’s Peak, told FOX 21 that crime in the parking lots of popular trails has been a growing concern.

“I feel like this is getting to the point now, where the people that use the trails a lot, I think we’re kind of saying enough is enough. We need to figure out some kind of solution, come together, work with the city or with our organizations, such as the Superior Hiking Trail and, you know, try to figure out some solutions,” Easty said.

The Duluth Police Department is reminding the public to lock their vehicles at all times and lock any valuables in a secure spot.
