Lake Superior Ice Festival Prevails Despite Weather
SUPERIOR, Wis.– Despite warm weather the 9th annual Lake Superior Ice Festival has continued to be a popular event in the northland.
While a few on-ice events had to be canceled, the spirits remained high as new activities were introduced.
There were plenty of games to be played, from kubb to mini golf, and even a new cornhole tournament.
This year the ice fest also saw more food vendors than ever.
Ice sculptures were also being carved out throughout the day.
The two-day event will wrap up with fire twirlers and a fireworks show Saturday evening.
“It’s just great to have something for people to get out and do,” said Linda Codotte, Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry– City of Superior. “Kind of break up the winter, it’s been kind of foggy and cloudy and although its unseasonably warm weather, it is nice to be able to adapt and bring as many things that we can so people can get out and have a good time.”
Ahead of this year’s festival, the City of Superior revealed the name of its new winter mascot– “Blizzy the Polar Bear”
The name was voted on by the community and won against over 50 other names
