UWS Women’s Tennis Off to Strong Start in 2nd Half of Season
The Yellowjackets will next be in action on Saturday against Macalester.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- Spring sports are starting up in the Twin Ports and that includes the UWS women’s tennis team, who have had already played a few games in the 2nd half of their season.
So far this year, the Yellowjackets are at 3-1.
The team will look to go further in their new campaign after experiencing a short exit in the first round of the UMAC tournament in 2023.
It’s been a bit of a youth movement for the team as they’ve added six new faces to the roster.
But for sophomore, Jessi Kukowski she says the team is already very close and feels that will carry on towards the court.
“We get really hyped during the game and the matches and stuff. We cheer each other on. We’ve been very agressive at our points and we try to win more points and play more defensively. We go for down the line shots and our serving we’ve been practicing a lot,” said Kukowski.
The incoming freshman class for the Yellowjackets have come from all over the world including one player who’s from Brazil.
“It’s really different the way we play here in the United State to what I’m used to. College tennis is very different as well because we all are a team. Usually I just played individually. It’s been great, the transition has been great. We have a lot of players that are really good and there’s also other internationals on the team. So I feel like I can relate to them as well,” said Giulia Araujo De Barros.
