Lake Superior College Helps Kids With Dental Care

DULUTH, Minn. –Lake Superior College is helping make sure kids have a bright smile. The Dental Hygiene Clinic at LSC is participating in the “Give Kids a Smile” campaign.

The event is all about providing free full-service dental care to children 18 and under who are from low-income families and don’t have access to it.
Dental partners donate plenty of materials and supplies. Because of the donations, LSC can give kids who are 10 and up an electric toothbrush.
There are about 58 volunteers who help make the day happen.

Natalie Dawe an instructor at LCA and who is in charge of the “Give Kids a Smile” even said, “One thing that I’m always touched by is the familiar faces every year.  Every year we have dentists who have been doing this for a decade. We see familiar faces of students who have now graduated and come back to hang out with us on this day. And so, it’s really fun to see the community come together and just help the day run smoothly.”

“Give Kids a Smile” is held every year on the first Friday in February. This is the 20th anniversary of the statewide outreach effort to make sure kids get the dental care needed.
