UMD Indigenous Student Organization Raising Funds For Spring Powwow
DULUTH, Minn. — UMD’s Indigenous Student Organization is raising funds for their spring Powwow by selling grilled cheese and tomato soup.
The organization focuses on different indigenous cultures that surround the college encouraging students to embrace their backgrounds and feel more comfortable doing so.
The second annual Spring Powwow is happening March 23rd and donations from the grilled cheese fundraiser will make it happen. The powwow is a Native American gathering filled with lots of singing and dancing, and for people to connect and have a good time.
One student is very excited about the event.
“I honestly really look forward to, if we’re able to be giving out fry bread to those who will come and just getting to share our culture with people who have never experienced it before and I believe like that everyone’s going to have a good time and I can’t wait to see that,” said Jazzmine Long, freshman at UMD and member of the Indigenous Student Organization.
There is another day of fundraising going on in UMD’s Kirby Student Center Friday from noon to 2 p.m. A grilled cheese is $3 and so is the soup, or you can get a combo of both for $5.
