#8 UMD Women’s Hockey Heads to Twin Cities to Battle #4 Minnesota
UMD has only won one out of their last 10 games against Minnesota.
DULUTH, Minn.- The 8th ranked UMD women’s hockey team closes out the regular season this upcoming weekend when they head to the Twin Cities to battle the 4th ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers.
It’s been a series that hasn’t gone in the Bulldogs favor in recent years. UMD has only won one out of their last 10 games against Minnesota. That one, being in the 2022 NCAA Regional Finals in March of that year.
Head Coach Maura Crowell says playing the Gophers to close out the regular season keeps her team honest but added it will be a challenge.
“When we play the Gophers, traditionally it looks different than it does against some other teams in conference which I think is fun. We’re freed up a little bit. There’s a lot of entry plays, back and forth, back and forth, good transition. I want to play an up tempo style. I want to hang onto pucks. I want to work on our entry plays, get at goalies, be first to pucks off of rebounds. Just more aggressive,” said Crowell.
Over the weekend, UMD graduate forward Mannon McMahon skated in her 166th straight game, which is a program record.
“There’s a lot. I mean, my team and I have played in some pretty big games. Even the classes under me too. A national championship game, a regional championship game, to go to the frozen four, frozen four games. There’s been a lot of memorable ones and each one is different and unique in it’s own way but every single time I put on that Bulldog jersey it’s something special and it’s something that I’m very proud of,” added McMahon.
McMahon and the Bulldogs drop the puck with the Gophers at 6 PM on Friday.
