Superior Rotary Sees Results of Fundraising Efforts for Ukrainian Ambulance

SUPERIOR, Wisc. — This week marks two years since Russia invaded Ukraine. Rotary Clubs in Ukraine and across the world have worked together to raise money to help with humanitarian aid. The Superior Rotary is one of the clubs that stepped up to help, and they got some inspiring news this week.

Since last September the Superior Rotary Club has been raising money in conjunction with the San Antonio Rotary Club. The money was to be used to purchase an ambulance for Ukraine. JC Clapsaddle from the San Antonio Club provided an update on those efforts.

“Hello Superior Club of Superior Wisconsin,” said Clapsaddle “That is your vehicle. We tracked that thing you bought in England with the funds that you donated.”

The Superior ambulance along with six other vehicles made up the convoy that left England.

“[We] drove it on a ferry across the English Channel to France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany Poland, and now we are in Ukraine.  We pulled in about an hour ago and unloaded all the vehicles in the convoy,” said Clapsaddle. “This is the last one, it’s filled to the gills with medical equipment, most of it your group helped purchase.”

Clapsaddle explained where the ambulance and supplies would end up. “Thank you this is a big deal and you made a big difference tomorrow is our last stop when we drop off your ambulance and all the medical supplies in it. Then our mission is done.”

Joe Radtke of the Superior Club said members were very pleased when they watched the video from Ukraine. Radtke said “Our club was just thrilled to see that the fundraising that we did with the help of the community here in the Twin Ports resulted in the delivery of the ambulance that we were able to purchase with the funds we raised as well as the medical supplies.

Radtke also said the local club will continue its fundraising efforts for Ukraine but they do not have a specific project in mind.

“Thank you for helping this mission work,” said Clapsaddle. “Thank you Rotary Club of Superior, Wisconsin”.
