Victim Identified In Fatal Morse Township House Fire

77-year-old woman was the only person inside the building.

MORSE TOWNSHIP, Minn. —UPDATE March 14, 2024

Authorities have now identified the person who died in a fire near Ely in February.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was 77-year-old Carol Ann Lindbeck.

A press release said Lindbeck was identified by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

She was the owner of the home and the only person inside at the time of the fire.

FEBRUARY 26, 2024:

One person is dead after a house fire happened Sunday afternoon in Morse Township.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says at 1:18 p.m. crews responded to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Grant McMahan Boulevard near Ely.

According to a 911 report, the elderly homeowner was still inside.

Police say firefighters searched through the thick smoke-filled house and were unable to find the homeowner.

The Sheriff’s Office says after getting the fire under control firefighters found the deceased victim inside the house.

The identity of the victim is pending further investigation.

Police say the cause of the fire has been determined as accidental and started near the fireplace inside the home.
