Mayor Reinert Proposes Options To W. Skyline Parkway After 2 Fatalities
DULUTH, Minn. — After two deaths on West Skyline Parkway in February, and a call to action by some concerned residents, Mayor Roger Reinert tells FOX 21 steps are being taken to increase safety on the scenic road.
The first death happened around 3:30 a.m., Feb. 4. A 26-year-old male driver was killed when he rolled off the road in the 1400 block of West Skyline Parkway.
Then on Feb. 20 around 3:30 p.m., a 70-year-old man, who was out for a walk, was hit and killed by a vehicle in the 1500 block of West Skyline Parkway.
Mayor Reinert told FOX 21 Wednesday that Public Works crews have since been clearing brush on Skyline and opening up sight lines. He said the city will add speed-limit signs where they might be needed.
Reinert has also asked staff to investigate whether the following should be installed on West Skyline:
*Flashing lights on stop signs
*A mobile speed monitor
*Bump strips in a couple places
