UWS Track and Field Finishing Indoor Schedule Strong

The team is next in action on Saturday at the Ripon Final Qualifier.

SUPERIOR, Wis.- It’s been almost a week since both the UWS men’s and women’s track and field teams hoisted the UMAC indoor championship trophy.

For the men, it’s their 8th straight year they have accomplished the feat.

And the women, they went back to back.

A big part of the team’s success comes from the distance runners group. Former Greenway standout Michael Butterfield and former Superior standout Halle Barker are among those finishing with top times.

They both spoke on what’s made that group so dominant this year.

“We came out strong in cross country. We put a lot of miles on in the summer and then we kind of carried it through to indoor season. It’s been really exciting because we have a couple of older girls, including myself but we have a couple of new freshman who have been a great addition to the team,” said Barker.

“I think we have a good group of boys. I think we have a good culture going. I think all the work we’ve been put on and especially off the track, especially within the classroom and just helping each other out through day to day life has been what’s really put us above the rest,” added Butterfield.
