Can Clinch WCHA Final Face-Off Berth With Win
DULUTH, Minn.- With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the UMD women’s hockey team entered the WCHA Playoffs with authority, shutting down St. Cloud State 5-0 for the game one victory.
This marks the second-straight time the Bulldogs opened the WCHA playoffs with a shutout victory (defeated St. Cloud State 1-0 in 2023).
After a scoreless first period, UMD found the back of the net with both Reece Hunt and Mary Kate O’Brien scoring. The Bulldogs added to their lead in the third period with Clara Van Wieren, Olivia Wallin and Ida Karlsson each tallying goals. At the net, Hailey MacLeod allowed no goals with 20 saves.
Friday’s game was especially significant for Mannon McMahon, who has now played in more games than any other UMD Bulldog in program history (169).
The Bulldogs and Huskies will take ice for game two on Saturday at 3 p.m. If UMD wins, they’ll advance to the WCHA Final Face-Off. If St. Cloud wins, teams will face off for a win-or-go-home game three on Sunday at 3 p.m.
