Political and Community Leaders Encourage Minnesotans to Vote “Uncommitted”

Dfl Vote

DULUTH, Minn. — Democratic Duluth Elected Officials, local leaders and community members rallied together to call for an “uncommitted” vote in the DFL Presidential Primary.

The gathering was held at the Lake Superior Plaza on Saturday. The group urged other Minnesotans to vote “uncommitted” in the DFL Presidential Primary, withholding their support for President Joe Biden in his reelection bid.

The call comes as a permanent ceasefire has yet to be enacted in Gaza, where 30,000 civilians have died. Many supporters of an “uncommitted” vote displayed posters and flags at the gathering.

“We’re constantly on the wrong side of history on standing for liberation around the world. We cannot be preaching liberation and freedom for our people while committing genocide and ethnic cleansing across the sea,” said Duluth Councilmember Azrin Awal. “So I ask you again consistently, please show up, if you are an ally and you are for human rights, please show up and send a message.”

Community leaders spoke at the gathering voicing their displeasure about the crisis in Gaza and the failure of a ceasefire.

“So yes, let’s vote uncommitted because we are committed to a ceasefire, but let’s not stop there. Sovereignty now for Palestinians, peace for Palestinians, self-determination for Palestinians,” said Dr. Mary Owen, Twin Ports DSA.

The DFL Presidential Primary will take place Tuesday, March 5th.
