#8 UMD Women’s Hockey Set to Clash With #1 Ohio State in WCHA Semifinals

UMD's last win against the Buckeyes came on December 3rd of 2022.

DULUTH, Minn.- And then there were four in the WCHA tournament.

The 8th ranked UMD women’s hockey team being one of those teams left. The three others are top five teams in the nation.

That includes the top ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, who the Bulldogs will match up with on Friday.

In the team’s previous four meetings in the regular season, they all went Ohio State’s way.

A big reason for that has to be the Buckeye defense which held the Bulldogs scoreless in three of those four contests.

Head Coach Maura Crowell says it’s important they make the most of their shots.

“The opportunities that we get at the net, tend to be grade A’s. So we just want to make sure we capitalize on the looks we get and play the same way that we have been playing for the past several weeks. Which is under a tremendous amount of pressure and thriving under that pressure,” said Crowell.

“We know our goalies can hold us in any games. So as long as we’re able to play defensively structured. We’re able to capitalize on our offensive opportunities, we’re going to have a great weekend,” added senior defender Nina Jobst-Smith.

UMD’s last win against the Buckeyes came on December 3rd of 2022.
