Moose Lake Airport Has Plans to Create Solar Farm with Unused Land
MOOSE LAKE, Minn. — The Moose Lake Carlton County Airport is making plans to go green.
The idea is to build a solar farm with the unused land at the airport. Recently the Carlton County Board voted to enter lease negotiations with Origis Energy.
The company thinks the solar installation can be a good fit for Carlton County to gain a new source of revenue. They regularly look for potential sites like these with flat ground and nothing that could obstruct landing or take-off.
“Airports typically we try to keep the trees away you know especially on the approaches. So, they’re typically open spaces already,” said Quinten Anderson, Airport Manager for Carlton County.
Currently Origis Energy and the Moose Lake Airport are in the very early stages of this process. A statement from the energy company reads in quote:
“Currently, we are not able to give specific information about final size, scope or cost, because discussions are extremely preliminary. As things progress, we will update you on details if and when we reach an agreement.”
