Spring Fire Danger in Minnesota and Wisconsin
The spring fire danger is highest during the time between the snow melting and vegetation springing up in Wisconsin and Minnesota. With the lack of snow this past winter, the risk for wildfires is higher this spring.
As of Monday morning, 189 wildfires have been reported in Wisconsin in 2024, burning a little over 350 acres. According to the Wisconsin DNR, fires can start and spread easily all across the state.
Over in Minnesota, the DNR reports the fire danger is highest in the southwest corner of the state. Burning restrictions are in place with the latest information available on the DNR website. So far this year, Minnesota agencies have fought 113 wildfires that have burned over 4,500 acres, most of that coming from 2 fires that happened earlier this month.
When the weather will be warm and breezy with low relative humidity, the national weather service will issue red flag warnings to alert the public of the elevated fire conditions.
