Juvenile Questioned After Potential Gun Threat At Proctor High School

Proctor Hs Law Enforcement

PROCTOR, Minn.  — A juvenile male is being questioned after Proctor High School went on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a potential threat involving a weapon in the school’s Media Center, according to Proctor Police Chief Kent Gaidis.

Authorities say 911 dispatch began getting calls around 4:30 p.m. about a “potential gun or weapon” at the school.

Multiple agencies responded, including Duluth and Hermantown police, St. Louis and Carlton County sheriff’s offices and the Minnesota State Patrol.

Most of the students were not in the building, other than roughly a dozen. Authorities went room to room to safely allow students to be released.

Chief Gaidis said one male, a minor, was located off the school grounds in Proctor and was being questions Wednesday evening. It was not immediately clear if the male is from Proctor High School.

St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay told the media during a press conference that surveillance video inside the Media Center confirmed the juvenile did not have a weapon.

Nobody was injured.

Meanwhile, later in the evening, FOX 21 obtained a All-Staff email from Supt. Kerry Juntunen that read in part:

“There was no threat. The student was carrying a piece of a broken computer and tapping it on lockers. He then left the building before law enforcement arrived,” Juntunen said. “Everyone acted exactly as we have been trained to do.”
