Mixed Bag of Veterans & Youth to Lead Proctor Softball Team Into 2024 Season
Proctor returns six of nine starters from a year ago.
PROCTOR, Minn.- The Proctor Rails are coming off two straight successful seasons, winning the section 7AA title both years.
Even better news for the team this year is they return six of their nine starters from a season ago.
And it gets even better because those six starters play multiple positions, making the challenge of finding replacements not as difficult.
Sydney Adamski, is one of those players that can do it all for the Rails. She says the best thing the team does doesn’t even involve a bat or a ball.
“When we make a mistake in scrimmages, it’s not that big of a deal. It’s just getting back and thinking of what you did wrong and how you can be better was nice. We’re all very supportive of each other. First games back, it’s kind of hard to get back in the loop right away. The biggest things that we have is our support. Our players we’re always supportive of each other. Picking yourself up, picking other people up, it’s just what we kind of strive to do as a team,” said Adamski.
With a veteran heavy squad, there’s still excitement for the sophomore and freshman Rails that will get a chance too.
“I think our strengths are really like the young kids coming up. They’re really going to help us. Softball’s really a team sport, so having these young kids coming up here is going to be really helpful,” said senior infielder Samantha Shelton.
“We have six super good girls on this team and the younger kids coming up are super good too. We all have good attitudes and we all seem like we want to be here. And we all enjoy it,” added senior pitcher and outfielder Emma Shelton.
Proctor opens the season on April 4th at Rock Ridge.
