Crowell Proud of UMD Women’s Hockey Team in Tough & Rewarding Season
The Bulldogs finished the year with a 21-14-4 record.
DULUTH, Minn.- It’s been almost two weeks since the UMD women’s hockey team wrapped up their season with a regional final loss to top ranked Ohio State in the NCAA tournament.
Of course, it’s not how they wanted their season to finish. But, there were still plenty of positives from the team this year.
Including big wins over Colgate, Wisconsin, St. Cloud State, as well as the double overtime thriller against UCONN in the regional semifinals.
Head Coach Maura Crowell said in her final presser of the season on Wednesday that this tournament run was the one she’s been most proud of because of how her team responded with a lot of talent leaving the year prior.
“A lot of big, big shoes to fill. The way I think our returners came and stepped up, you know you can’t anticipate some of those things. You hope but the way our returners came and stepped up, the way our leadership stepped up, the way the kids we picked up in the transfer portal came and made a massive impact on our program. I think it was a really rewarding and tough year at times,” said Crowell.
Crowell added she hasn’t had to give any rah-rah speech yet for next season. Her returners are already determined.
“I know from talking to the players that are returning that that last one leaves a sour taste in their mouths. They’re going to be motivated all off-season from. Out of failure, comes a lot of success and growth so that’s what we’re hoping for,” added Crowell.
