Basketball Seniors Shine in Iron Range All-Star Game
MIB's Zubich, Denfeld's Altona among participants
VIRGINIA, Minn.- Though their high school hoops careers are officially over, seniors were able to enjoy another game on the court at the Iron Range Engineering Senior All-Star Game at Minnesota North College- Mesabi Range.
In the girls’ all-star game, the home team won 86-79. Members of the winning team included Mountain Iron-Buhl’s Hali Savela and Suzy Aubrey, Cloquet’s Leilani Fonoti, and Chisholm’s Tresa Baumgard. This year’s away team included Mountain Iron-Buhl’s Jordan Zubich and Gabby Lira, Rock Ridge’s Emma Lamppa, and Cromwell-Wright’s Mya Gronner and Kyra Granholm.
In the boys’ all-star game, the home team won 96-86. Members of the winning team included Rock Ridge’s Pier Povoledo and Jalen Miskowitz, along with Aidan Altona of Duluth Denfeld. This was Altona’s first game since a knee injury he suffered in the Hunters’ season opener on December 1. Fellow Denfeld Hunters Ethan Starstead and Deontae Persaud-Davis played opposite of Altona on the away team.
Some of Wednesday’s all-stars are also set to play in the Polar League All-Star Game, which is scheduled for Monday, April 1 at Two Harbors High School.
