Hungry Hilltopper Baseball Team Ready for Tough Section 7AA Schedule

Marshall's first game is set for April 4th at Esko.

DULUTH, Minn.- Anytime you finish a season at 17-6, that’s something you can be proud of.

But for the Duluth Marshall team they weren’t satisfied with the way their season ended a year ago.

Facing a tough section 7AA schedule, the Hilltoppers would fall short by being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

The good news is Marshall is ready to run it back this year with the same team and even a few additions.

Head Coach Nick Garramone, who enters his 4th year at the helm, says since the final out of last season, he could tell how hungry his team was to get better.

“The energy that this group has been bringing all off-season. The effort that they have been bringing all off-season and the energy in the first two weeks of practice has been phenomenal. I’m really proud of guys coming together in the interim and what that’s shown on the field so far,” said Garramone.

For players like Carter Boos, who’s been on the team since the 7th grade, he says that the competition from their section foes brings out the best of them.

“We wouldn’t want it any other way honestly. Start off with these tougher games and just dose into those tough situations. That’s how we’re going to grow. Instead of walking through the first half of the season, not really having to work for our wins and find who we are as a team,” said Boos.

“We’re going to have our fun, it’s a game still. But everybody is there to work hard and go win. We all have one goal as a team. We’ve been working for that goal for forever now so hopefully it will pay off this year,” added senior infielder/pitcher Tanner Carlson.
