Denfeld’s Starstead Steps Up Amid Hunters’ Injuries

17.1 PPG, 9.2 RPG in 2023-24 season

DULUTH, Minn.- Duluth Denfeld’s boys’ basketball season was derailed by injuries, but one senior was able to make the most of his extra minutes on the court.

In the 2023-24 season, Ethan Starstead finished with 17.1 points per game, along with a team high of 9.2 rebounds per game.

“Going into the season, I was the third, fourth option on the team scoring-wise,” says Starstead. “I actually started the season injured with some elbow injuries. So once (Aidan Altona and Marnaries Ferguson) went down, and I got healthy, that’s when I really had the chance to play my full potential.”

“It’s always great being on the court with (Ethan),” says teammate Deon’Tae Parsaud-Davis, who played with Ethan in last week’s Iron Range Engineering Senior All-Star Game. “I always look to give him the ball, but he’s always so far ahead on the court. He’s a great player, and a great teammate at that, too.”

Despite Starstead and Persaud-Davis graduating, Denfeld will be a team to watch in 2024-25 with electric guard combo Marnaries Ferguson and Lee Brooks set to return.
