Astronomy Day at the UMD Planetarium Prepares People for The Solar Eclipse

DULUTH, Minn. — The UMD Planetarium held its annual Astronomy Day Saturday to educate people about space and science.

Many interacting activities and demonstrations were set up at the Planetarium.

People could learn about the solar system and the upcoming solar eclipse and special glasses were given out for people to look at the eclipse.

The Planetarium was also open for screenings of different shows.

“What I love about my job is the outreach and getting the public excited, and I always get worried going into these events that maybe no one cares, maybe no one wants to come out. And then we get crowds of people and it just makes me very happy that we have a community that is excited about what we do and wants to come out and spend their Saturday with us,” said Jessica Rogers, Planetarium Director.

For the solar eclipse on Monday, the Planetarium will be hosting a viewing party starting at 12:30 p.m.
