Northern Star: Bjorn Lind

Duluth East senior to play college baseball at Augustana

DULUTH, Minn- Duluth East’s baseball team is chock full of returning starters in their lineup, including Augustana-commit and versatile defender Bjorn Lind.

“I’m definitely a lot stronger, faster, more physical and (I’ve) grown a couple inches.” says Lind, who has a lot of reasons to why he loves baseball. “I would say going into the field every day with your best friends and competing against each other and looking to win games too.”

“Everybody loves Bjorn,” smiles Joe Nick, a longtime teammate of Lind’s. “Bjorn is a great ball player, and he’s a great leader. He does a great job anywhere you put him.”

Lind is the Greyhound’s starting shortstop, where he’s established himself as a leader of the infield.

“He’s always like always telling us what to do,” explained Jack Teachworth, who plays at third base and pitcher for Duluth East.  “(He’s) always taking control of the infield, making sure everyone knows what’s going on, the signs we give to the pitchers, he makes sure we all know it.”

“Bjorn covers a lot of ground and he’s got a great arm, so it allows him to play a little bit deeper and use his arm to get that ball across the diamond,” says Nick. “And it takes a lot of pressure off second baseman and third baseman when your shortstop can cover more ground.”

Lind is also a featured piece in Duluth East’s deep pitching rotation. “Bjorn’s a great pitcher,” says catcher Tim Hudoba. “(He) throws hard. He has good pitches, and he hits his spots.”

The Greyhounds have an opportunity of capturing their first winning season in five years, and Lind knows he’ll need to come through in clutch moments in order to make that happen. “(The) bats got to get early, make the routine plays in the field, and throw strikes, and see what happens.”

Duluth East is facing a five-game road stretch before their next home game, scheduled for April 29 against Sartell-St. Stephen.
