Northern Star: Ella Brisbois

Duluth senior to play college lacrosse at Concordia St. Paul

DULUTH, Minn.- On a team full of general newcomers to the sport of lacrosse, Ella Brisbois brings some uncommon experience to the Duluth Wolfpack.

“She’s a really good shooter,” says teammate Grace Karakas. “She’s really confident on the field so it helps a lot. She’s a good passer and she just knows what she’s doing out there.”

For Karakas, lacrosse was more of an afterthought with her focus directed towards soccer and hockey. That was until Brisbois, a close friend, convinced her to play for the Wolfpack.

“(Ella) was like, ‘You should join.'” recalled Karakas. “And there wasn’t a lot of girls playing at the time when I joined.”

“We’ve played hockey together since we were like, six or eight,” says Brisbois, who first started playing lacrosse at age 10. “We kind of have this like connection where we just make eye contact on the field and know a play to run just by looking at each other.”

Since her freshman year, Brisbois has been joined by new teammates giving lacrosse a shot for the first time. Now with more depth and talent than in season’s past, she’s confident in leading her team to their first winning record in five years.

“We definitely think we can have a good year. But I think one of our goals is to host a section game and see how far we can make it.”

Duluth will take on Hermantown/Proctor on Thursday before a rematch with Superior on Tuesday, April 30.
