Lake Superior Zoo Prepares For Upcoming ‘Toast To Tails’ Fundraiser

DULUTH, Minn. — The Lake Superior Zoo is getting ready for one of their biggest fundraisers of the year.

The Toast to Tails fundraiser this year has a 1920s theme. It is one of the only events that focuses more on the adults than the kids. It includes animal encounters, many different drink tastings, a raffle, silent auction, food, music and dancing. Fundraisers are crucial to the Zoo.

“It enables us to you know fully fund our kids’ programs, to provide events that our for everyone like Zoolapalooza which is a very popular event over the summer. So, it all just doesn’t happen automatically. If it wasn’t for our memberships and our fundraisers then we couldn’t be the zoo that we are,” said Robin Politowicz, Events/Development Manager.

For those that purchase a VIP ticket you have the option to either tour of the animal care center with a porcupine visit or get up close and personal with the bears and feed them.

“I think people are a lot of times surprised by their size. When you’re kind of like looking down into the exhibit they don’t really seem as big but when you’re on the same level as them and there’s just kind of like the bar separating you, you can really see how huge they are. And if one of them stands up as well you can see just how much taller they are than you,” said Anna Schopf, Animal Care Specialist.

There is still plenty of time to buy tickets as the event is next Friday, May 3rd from 6 to 9 p.m. You can find more information on the Lake Superior Zoo’s website.
