People Get New Wheels at the 16th Annual ‘Continental Bike Swap’

DULUTH, Minn. — For people who prefer to get around on two wheels, the 16th annual Continental Bike Swap was the place to be this weekend.

Every year, Continental Ski and Bike hosts the event at its store on E 1st Street in Duluth.

On Friday, people dropped off good-working bikes to sell or donate to the Bike Swap.

Then on Saturday and Sunday, all of the bikes are available for purchase.

The bikes that are put up for sale by owners will get a percentage, with the rest going to this year’s charity, Duluth Devo Bike Program.

Around 300 bikes were sold on Saturday and over 200 were still available today.

“All the bikes that come in, they get checked out by our mechanics. So we’re keeping bikes out of the landfill, we’re getting them out of peoples garages. As kids are growing up they can upgrade their bike, upsize their bike, recycle their bike,” Mel Rajkowski, Bike Swap Volunteer Coordinator.

There was many different types of bikes for sale from road, mountain and kids bikes, along with many more, which are fit for the dozens of miles of biking trails that are here in Duluth.

FOX 21’s Dan Hanger emceed Saturday’s Bike Swap.
