Duluth East Baseball Seniors Determined to Achieve Winning Season

Greyhounds start season 5-4 overall

DULUTH, Minn.- At 5-4 overall, The Duluth East baseball team has a chance of finishing with a winning record for the first time since 2019.

A key factor in the Greyhounds’ success this year has been their senior class, which has played together as a group since their first times swinging a bat on the diamond.

“We’ve played together since first memories of baseball, and no one’s left or moved to a different school,” says Cade Fladmark. “I think we’ve got pretty good chemistry, so I think we can be pretty good this year.”

“We like to spend time together,” smiles Joe Nick, who will play for UW-Superior in 2025. “I think a lot of us play summer ball together as well. So (the) last four or five years, we’ve all played ball together and we all enjoy each other’s company.”

Duluth East has shown sparks of excellence in recent years but have finished below .500 in the last two years. This year’s seniors feel they now understand what it will take to get more wins on the board.

“Just consistency, all around.” says Nick. “Gotta get the bats going early. I think we’ll be all right on the mound. We’ve got plenty of arms, but just consistency all around in the field at the plate and on the mound.”

“(We need to) Be ready to go out there and play just had the winning mentality.” stated Jack Teachworth. “(And) picking each other up. If you get a strikeout or groundout or making an error, always be there behind your team and just be there for them.”

Weather pending, Duluth East is scheduled to host Sartell-St. Stephen on Monday before three straight games on the road.
