Marshall’s Carlson Brings Maturity to Mound

Seven strikeouts in Friday win over Warroad

DULUTH, Minn.- As the Duluth Marshall baseball team continue to play strong this season, senior Tanner Carlson found himself as a leader both on and off the diamond.

On Friday, Carlson recorded seven strikeouts in a 6-3 win over Warroad. As a team captain, he’s embraced a leadership role with a team, and not just as a leader by example.

“(Tanner) is awesome.” says teammate Carter Boos. “We all call him our “‘dad’ just because he just acts so much older, more mature, wiser than everyone. It’s kind of a joke but it’s really serious. He’s a great leader and he’s just someone that you can always go to. He’s always doing the right thing.”

Meanwhile, Carlson says he and his teammates are a lot closer this year than in season’s past. “We’ve for sure taken a step up this year from last.” he says. “We’re a lot more bonded and it seems everybody’s here to work hard and get some wins.”

Duluth Marshall (5-2) returns to play on Thursday as they hit the road to take on Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin.
