DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Palestine Solidarity Camp, as the group is calling themselves, set up an encampment at the Rose Garden Wednesday evening.   This encampment followed another encampment within the Duluth Civic Center, which police said was not legal.

Duluth Palestine Solidarity Camp’s purpose is to “demand city and state divestment and boycott of Israel,” according to a news release.

“We seek to be an emergent hub of political education and action, building long-term solidarity and mutual aid networks with our neighbors. We welcome all people who align with this vision to join us and are committed to being caring stewards of the Rose Garden during this time,” the news release continued.

The City of Duluth released the following statement Wednesday evening:

“The City of Duluth is aware of people gathering at Priley Circle and the Rose Garden. The demonstrations at this time remain peaceful and are a respectful expression of the parties’ First Amendment Rights. Currently, there is no concern for public safety. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.”
