Robot Wars Bring College and High School Students Together Through Competition

DULUTH, Minn. — Machines took over Lake Superior College’s main campus Thursday to put some robots to the test.

Robot Wars is an annual competition and end of the year project for first year students in the Integrated Manufacturing Program. Students spent the last semester building and getting creative with their robots. The college also invites high schools to join the event. The competition is a highlight for students.

“It’s one of those things that we think they have a lot of fun with it. They’ve really enjoyed it throughout the years. It’s also a great recruiting tool for us, inviting the high schools to come participate, get their students in, see our facilities, interact with some of our students, and see the work that our students are doing,” said Matt Farchmin, welding faculty member.

This is one of the last times where students work together on one project before they spread out into their different specialties. That includes welding, machining, and computer-aided design.
